Kaumarabhritya
Ayurveda being an ancient system of medicine caters to the health needs of various types of individuals. “Kaumarabhritya” being one among the 8 branches, speaks about the comprehensive child care from birth to 16 years of age.Kaumarabhritya means the branch which deals with “Bharana -Poshana” of Kumara, which means nourishing and supporting the growth and development along with maintenance of the health and treatment of childhood diseases. The discipline of Kaumarabhritya finds a parallel in the modern discipline of pediatrics.
Other Departments
Acharya Marichi Kashyapa is considered as the father of Kaumarabhritya whose preachings on child care practices are much valued even today. The branch of Kaumarabhritya is given the topmost importance as care of the individual through the early ages forms the basis for health for the rest of the life.
Highlights of the Department
*Department of Kaumarabhritya is a clinical department imparting its services under the major domains viz. hospital, academic activities.
*TheAcademic wing of department of Kaumarabhritya is housed on the second floor of the college building.
*Department has an excellent reference library with more than 100+ books on different subspecialties of Pediatrics(Kaumarabhritya).
*The Academic wing of department is also well equipped with different Charts, posters, instruments, demo models, simulators for clinical training of students both Undergraduates and Post-graduates.
*Department started a Post Graduation course in the year 2018.
*Undergraduates and Post-graduates are given hands-on training on immunization and other National Health Programs at community health centres.
*As a part of Post-graduate curriculum, Scholars are given opportunity to learn in various pediatric hospitals all over Karnataka.
*There are 3 batches of post-graduate scholars in department guided by 5 efficient faculties .
Objectives:
*To develop ideal teaching techniques & demonstration modules in kaumarabhritya for Postgraduate and Undergraduate teaching.
*Train graduates and postgraduates in efficiently handling neonates and children.
*Facilitate research activities in the field of kaumarabhritya.
