Panchakarma

Aim of Ayurveda is to maintain the health of a healthy person and to cure the diseases. Daily routine, seasonal routine, proper diet, Panchakarma procedures, rejuvenation and virility (aphrodisiac) therapy are different aspects which are to be followed to have a healthy and long life. Panchakarma procedures are to be done in a healthy person in specific season to eliminate the physiologically accumulated doshas in the body which are due to the effect of specific seasons. Panchakarma procedures are also done in different diseased conditions.

Panchakarma procedures include Vamana (induced therapeutic emesis), Virechana (induced therapeutic purgation), Niruha Vasti (medicated decoction enema), Anuvasana Vasti(medicated oil/ghee enema) and Nasya (administration of medicines through nostrils). These are also the five detoxifying procedures.

Vamana, Virechana and Vasti are considered as best for the Kapha, Pitta and Vata doshas respectively. Nasya is best for the diseases of head and neck. Vata, Pitta and Kapha (tridoshas) are three governing constituents of the body. Equilibrium state of tridosha is very much essential to have a good health.

Vamana means expelling doshas/toxins through oral route. Before inducing vamana the toxins and vitiated doshas are brought to stomach. This procedure is very effective in bronchial asthma, chronic cough, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, PCOS, infertility, urticaria, obesity, digestion related diseases etc.

Virechana is expelling the vitiated doshas and toxins through purgation. This therapy can be conducted as an individual detoxification therapy or as a follow up therapy next to vamana to ensure complete detoxification. This procedure is very effective in bronchial asthma, cough, skin disorders (psoriasis, eczema), urticaria, lumbar spondylosis, obesity, gastritis, digestion related diseases, infertility, obesity, liver disorders, etc.

Vasti karma is expelling body toxins and vitiated doshas by introducing medicated liquids or oils/ghee through anus. This procedure is very effective in different types of joint disorders (like rheumatoid arthritis, osteo-arthritis, gouty arthritis etc.) lumbar spondylosis, sciatica, obesity, irritable bowel syndrome, longstanding constipation, loss of strength, etc. It also has benefits like improvement of vision, decreases weight in obese people, increases weight and nourishes emaciated persons, slows down ageing process and boosts health.
